Haw Par Villa

Haw Par Villa was an interesting adventure. It is a Chinese mythological theme park in Singapore. The park has over 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas depicting scenes from Chinese folklore, legends, history and illustrations of various aspects of Confucianism. The attractions include statues of the Laughing Buddha and the Goddess of Mercy.

The kids loved it, because they were able to climb all over the statues.

February in Singapore

Jurong Bird Park

On Saturdays we try and go on outings as a family. The first Saturday in February we went to the Jurong Bird Park. I was excited to go visit this park, because my Nana spoke so highly of it from when she had visited Singapore.

She was right, it was beautiful. In addition to the fun birds in the jungle setting, there is an amazing little water park for the kids.

There was a large treetop walk where we could feed the birds.

 Super Bowl 2012

This is the first time Mathew has watched the Super Bowl on a Monday morning (live). He went to all ends of the earth to make it happen. Luckily we were able to watch the game.

Hay's Dairy Goat Farm

For playgroup we went to Hay's Dairy Goat Farm. It was quite the adventure to get there. We were able to watch them milk the goats, tour the facilities and then sample the milk. Elle tried the chocolate goat milk and says she liked it.

MacRitchie Resevoir Park

Mathew took Elle on a date to the MacRitchie Resevoir Park. This is a beautiful place that has monkeys all over and a treetop walk. Unfortunately on this particular day, Mathew and Elle took the wrong path and saw no monkeys and it was too far of a walk to make it to the treetop walk. They still had a great time and took some fabulous pictures.

Grocery Shopping in Singapore

Grocery shopping in Singapore is expensive. It has become sort of a game to find the best place to get everything I need. So far I have to hit about three different grocery stores to get all of the things I need. One particular Saturday as a family we ventured to Giant (hypermart) in Vivo City (another HUGE mall in Singapore). We took a few pictures of the delicatessens (or not) that we ran across. After we left Giant we found an electronic store that had some fabulous workout machines. Mathew and Elle had a great time riding the 'horse'. It was better than paying for those little rides in the mall!

January in Singapore = Chinese New Year

I am so far behind on updating the blog that in an effort to catch up, I am going to throw up a few pictures for the past few months of our adventures in Singapore. January was our first month here and before Mathew started work we tried to see some of the town. We were also here just in time to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It was a fantastic way to be introduced into a beautiful culture. 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. They were everywhere and the town was colored in red and yellow.

In addition to the Chinese New Year there are a couple random pictures of the girls.

Elle found her signature 'pose' and many pictures of Elle will look similar to this one.
